In 2013, the UK Ministry of Defense “suddenly” started thinking about making the L119A1 Special Forces Weapon even better. As tradition demanded, they addressed the issue to Colt Canada (formerly Diemaco), that supplies weapons to those British special forces units which don’t consider the regular SA80 the pinnacle of perfection.
The Canadian Colt did not blunder. By offering a series of improvements, they turned the “old” carbine into the latest L119A2. The most important improvement was the Lewis Machine & Tool Company monolithic top receiver. Monolithic, as in a flat-top one.
Although rumors about new carbines began circulating in 2016, the first more or less detailed photo of L119A2 became the one with the carbine in the hands of Christian Craighead in Nairobi.
