Tu-2 was developed in the Soviet Union by the Tupolev design bureau as a high-speed bomber, for which a promising propulsion system of two M-82 engines (which was later used on La-5 fighters) was chosen. It was used since 1942 and until the end of the war its design underwent many changes. After the war, a significant number of Tu-2s of postwar construction and modifications were delivered from the USSR to the People's Republic of China and participated in the Korean War. Except for the nose fairing and rudder cladding, it was metal and was originally designed as a dive bomber - the authorized speed in dive reached 650 km/h (in later series the air brakes were removed). Tu-2 carried 1000 kg of bombs at normal load, but could take up to 4000 kg in overload. The defensive armament included 3 firing points (two above and one below) armed with 12.7 mm UBT machine guns. The crew consisted of 4 people: pilot, navigator-gunner behind him, gunner-radio man and lower gunner.
