An important function of the unit is the search and rescue of the crews of downed or crashed aircraft of the Spanish Air Force and NATO allies. The task is carried out in any weather, at any time of the day, and often under enemy fire.
Such a list of objectives requires a wide knowledge of medicine, topography, the ability to combat at day and night, and to rescue pilots from any terrain, be it the sea or snow-covered ridges.
